  • A map showing selected mines, mineral deposits and historice mines on the radiometric map of Australia. 1:5 million scale.

  • Summary report on the ore prospects of some Western Australian gold mines. The report provides details on production, ore deposits, and operations.

  • Overview of staff involvement and general, field and laboratory work carried out during the month of August, 1947.

  • The area was bored and sampled in May, 1948. Bores were put down to water level, using a post-hole digger. When the sand brought up from the boreholes appeared to contain appreciable quantities of heavy minerals, it was sampled by quartering. Sample weights, volumes, and dry concentrates were determined. Percentage composition of concentrates was determined by grain counting. The estimates of the quantities and grades of heavy mineral concentrates, the quantities of overburden, and the quantities of each of the heavy minerals are tabulated in this report. Data collected in the course of the investigation has been tabulated and is appended. Accompanying locality and section plans have been included.

  • The presence of bauxite in the Territory was first reported in 1908. This supposed bauxite occurrence at Mounts Roe and Bedwell at the head of Port Essington was examined and sampled by the writer in June, 1949 with negative results. Subsequent to the visit to Port Essington, many specimens of lateritic material from the northern portion of the Territory have been received. Some were collected from inland localities and others from various points on the Arnhem Land coast and adjacent islands. These samples were submitted for visual examination and preliminary testing. The results of these tests, together with the interpretations and conclusions that have been drawn with regard to the search for bauxite, are summarised in this report.

  • At present a gravimetric survey of the area between Berrigan, Mulwala, and Corowa is being made by the geophysical section of this Bureau to show the southern continuation of the sedimentary basin between Oaklands and Berrigan which contains Permian coal. Reconnaissance mapping of the area was carried out on the 4th and 5th of July to find where the bedrock consisting of granite and pre-Permian sediments outcrops, in order to facilitate the interpretation of the gravimetric survey data. The accompanying plan showing outcrops in the Oaklands - Coorabin coalfield area is included.

  • The Perth 1:1M sheet covers an area underlain by Archaean rocks of the western Yilgarn Craton, adjacent, abutting or onlapping Proterozoic rocks such as the Northampton Block, and Phanerozoic rocks of the Perth Basin. The aeromagnetic interpretation provides most information on the distribution of Archaean rocks as these rocks are generally moderately to highly magnetised with reasonable variation of magnetisation. Adjacent Perth Basin sediments are poorly magnetised and spatially associated magnetic anomalies are attributed to underlying Proterozoic rocks. The Archaean rocks are subdivided into undivided gneiss-migmatite-granite (Agmg), banded gneiss (Agn), sinuous gneiss (Anu), greenstone (Aa), and granite plutons (Ag). Where important relative differences in magnetisation are mapped, the geophysical map units include the suffixes _h (high), _m (medium), _l (low) and _r (remanent) for the level of magnetisation. Dykes, faults, and unassigned small intrusives are also mapped. Large Archaean domains equivalent to geologically defined Provinces are also defined including Murchison, Toodyay- Lake Grace, Southwest, Southern Cross and Yeelirrie domains.

  • In the present report it is sought to explain a number of points, including, in particular, to give an explanation as to why the Company now estimates that its annual loss would be £169,000 per annum as against an estimate of £100,000 per annum, given in the statement issued by the Chamber of Mines. Information is also given in this report concerning the present ore reserve position which is closely bound up with the proposed development program.

  • These notes are supplementary to an earlier report (1948/016), and are designed to elucidate certain points brought up in that report. The issues of grade, workings, development, expenditure, production, and future prospects are generally discussed.
