  • The Australian Geological Survey Organisation (AGSO; formerly the Bureau of Mineral Resources, Geology and Geophysics, or BMR) has had a long scientific interest in the NorthWest Shelf, dating back to the earliest systematic surveys of the region, carried out by BMR in1967. The Continental Margins Survey of 1970-73 was the first systematic survey of the continental margin extending to abyssal depths, and in many areas (eg Scott Plateau, northern Exmouth Plateau) it remains the only regional data set available. Since obtaining and fitting out the research vessel Rig Seismic in late 1984/early 1985, BMR/AGSO has carried out two rounds of research on the North West Shelf. The first round (1986) concentrated on heat flow studies on the Exmouth Plateau (Choi, Stagg, & others, 1987) and on multichannel seismic surveying of the margins of the Exmouth Plateau as a precursor to ODP drilling (references). The second round commenced in 1990 and is scheduled to run until late 1993 or early 1994.

  • The 1:2 500 000 scale bedrock geology map of Queensland and northwest New South Wales was compiled at 1:500 000 scale, primarily based on the 1:2 000 000 surface geology map of Queensland Geology (2012) by removing unconsolidated Cenozoic sediments with interpretation of aeromagnetic data and reference to Geological Survey of New South Wales' interpretation of the Thomson Orogen region (Hegarty 2010). This work also referred to the geological province work by Stewart et al (2013). Stratigraphic unit definition data is linked to the Australian Stratigraphic Names Database through the stratno, by which this bedrock geology map may also be linked to other geoscientific databases housed in Geoscience Australia.

  • Removed on advice from Client Services 15/02/16 Map no longer available This attractive map provides visitors to Australia`s top end with all the information they need to navigate their way around Northern Australia. From National Parks to caravan parks and from ranger stations to petrol stations, this map identifies all the sites to see and locates the important facilities for travellers. This map is unique in providing complete coverage of Australia north of the tropic of Capricorn along with detailed tourist information. Printed on both sides, this product is supplemented by road distance tables, a selection of photographs and diagrams and informative text about the region. Available as flat and folded copies.

  • The Northern Australian Project online GIS, which has been chiefly designed to highlight the results of geochronological research within the project area, was first published in 2003 and updated in July 2004. GIS data reference layers include 1: 250,000, 1: 1 million, and 1: 2,500,000 geological data, regional geophysical images and a topographic map image. The geochronology and fluid inclusion points have been linked live to Geoscience Australia's OZROCKS, OZCHRON and PETROG Oracle databases. Forms display data to the user from these databases using customised query statements. Queries directed to geological layers display information derived from static ArcInfo shapefiles. The North Australia Project geochronology research has chiefly targeted the Arunta Block, Davenport Geosyncline, and the Granites-Tanami Block provinces within the project area.
