This average precipitation grid are current as at 10/3/2011 and is version 3 of the Australian Water Availability Project. It is the average precipitation for all months from January 1900 until December 2010.

The chloride deposition dataset is created by taking observational chloride in rainfall data from 291 sites across Australia and interpolating it to form a gridded data set at a resolution of 0.05° x 0.05° for the region of Australia. This dataset (and the derivative 95% confidence interval for upper and lower datasets) were created by CSIRO.

Geoscience Australia has been updating its collection of navigation for marine seismic surveys in Australia. These include original navigation files, the 2003 SNIP navigation files and digitised survey track maps. The result will be an updated cleansed navigation collection. The collection is based on the SNIP format P190 navigation file which follows the UKOOA standard. Industry standard metadata associated with a seismic survey is preserved. To assist industry, Geoscience Australia is making available its updated version of cleansed navigation. Although the process of updating the navigation data is ongoing and there is still legacy data to check, the navigation data is at a point where a significant improvement has been achieved and it is now usable. Users should be aware that this navigation is not final and there may be errors. Geoscience Australia (email - AusGeodata@ga.gov.au) appreciates being notified of any errors found. The data is available in both KML and Shape file formats. The KML file can be viewed using a range of applications including Google Earth, NASA WorldWind, ESRI ArcGIS Explorer, Adobe PhotoShop, AutoCAD3D or any other earth browser (geobrowser) that accepts KML formatted data. Alternatively the Shape files can be downloaded and viewed using any application that supports shape files. Current understanding of Australia's geothermal resources is based on limited data such as temperature measurements taken in petroleum and mineral boreholes across the country. Heat flow studies are rarer, with existing publicly available compilations containing less than 150 heat flow data-points for Australia. Both temperature and heat flow data are unevenly distributed and, where no data exist, the available information has been interpolated over large areas to generate national-scale maps. Geoscience Australia has acquired the field and laboratory equipment required to measure heat flow. It began thermal logging of boreholes across Australia in late 2008 and has since collected 155 temperature logs. In late 2009, the thermal conductivity meter became operational, allowing the project to begin thermal conductivity measurements of samples collected from logged boreholes. To help clear some of the backlog of samples collected during 2008-09, the measurement of some of these samples has been contracted out. This record details the first set of new heat flow interpretations to be released by Geoscience Australia. The remaining temperature logs will be interpreted for heat flow and released, as thermal conductivity data for these holes become available.

The twelfth edition of the Airborne Geophysical Survey Index presents a summary of the essential specifications of over 1080 surveys held in the National Airborne Geophysical Database. Include Index Maps at 1:10 million scale for magnetic, radiometric and elevation survey coverage of Australia as at 31 August 2011.

This dataset attempts to reflect the boundaries of claimant applications for Native Title as per the Register of Native Title Claims (s185, Native Title Act; Commonwealth). This is a national dataset but data is stored by jurisdiction (State), for ease of use. Applications stored for each jurisdiction dataset include applications which overlap into adjoining jurisdictions as well as applications which overlap with these. This dataset depicts the spatial record of registered claimant applications. Aspatial attribution includes National Native Title Tribunal number, Federal Court number, application status and the names of both the NNTT Case Manager and Lead Member assigned to the application. Applicants of registered applications have the Right To Negotiate (RTN) with respect to certain types of Future Acts over the area being claimed. Whilst applications that are determined are recorded on a separate register, all registered applications remain on the Register of Native Title Claims until otherwise finalised.. Geospatial data portraying native title information produced by the National Native Title Tribunal may not be on-sold. Value added products using this data must acknowledge the National Native Title Tribunal as the data source and include the NNTT disclaimer.

This keynote address was presented at the Australian Nickel Conference held in Perth, 13-14 October 2004. Nickel-sulphide deposits in Australia are mainly associated with Archaean komatiites and Archaean Proterozoic mafic intrusions, but some unusual Phanerozoic deposits occur in eastern Australia. The majority of Australia's nickel production (~80%) is derived from komatiite deposits in the Yilgarn Craton of Western Australia. The Eastern Goldfields Province of this craton hosts one of the greatest concentrations of Archaean komatiite-hosted nickel deposits in the world, several of which are world class (>1 Mt Ni). Exploration activities in Australia are currently focussed on mafic-ultramafic rocks in Late Archaean and Proterozoic provinces. Exploration has been stimulated by the discovery of new deposits (Flying Fox, Daybreak, Armstrong, Daltons, McEwen, Nebo-Babel), recognition of different styles of mineralisation (Avebury), and the protracted period of elevated nickel metal prices. There is considerable potential for finding new deposits associated with komatiites and mafic intrusions, particularly under shallow cover. Geoscience Australia has undertaken new research initiatives that define favourable mineralising elements, exploration strategies, and new nickel metallogenic provinces.
