  • This dataset contains bathymetry products from the Lord Howe Rise 2D Seismic Survey undertaken by Geoscience Australia (GA) and the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) during the period from 17 March to 16 May 2016 onboard the RV Kairei (Survey KR1605). The Lord Howe Rise (LHR) is a submerged plateau that extends from southwest New Caledonia to the west of New Zealand. Much of the LHR lies within the Australian marine jurisdiction at water depths of 1000-3000m. The Commonwealth conducted a scientific seismic survey over the Lord Howe Rise in 2016 in collaboration with JAMSTEC. This collaboration contributes to a larger research proposal submitted to the International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) that would provide the first deep stratigraphic record for the Cretaceous Eastern Gondwana Margin. The IODP proposal, if funded, is to drill a deep stratigraphic well to a depth of 2-3 km below the seabed, possibly in 2020. In order to select the drill sites, GA and JAMSTEC are conducting site assessments that involve a seismic survey in 2016 and a geotechnical survey in 2017. Multibeam bathymetry data were acquired during the survey covering an area of 62,360 km2. Eight bathymetry grids of 50 to 80m resolution were produced using the shipborne 12 KHz sonar system.<p><p>This dataset is not to be used for navigational purposes.

  • This dataset represents the current extent of bathymetry datasets held by AusSeabed as of January 2019. This dataset is live and will continue to be augmented as coverage is supplied from respective AusSeabed partners. Surveys have been conducted by a wide range of organisations and countries, both inside and outside of Australia's EEZ and for various purposes. Each polygon contains metadata describing the nature of data collection, including details of the survey, as well as the principle investigator of the project. Not all surveys are currently available for download; if available, the Data Access URL attribute will indicate how to access the survey data. Polygons are based on a 500m gridding of the survey data, so may not be representative of the true survey extent when viewed at large scale.

  • This resource includes bathymetry data acquired during the Recherche Archipelago 2003 bathymetry survey collected using a Reson SeaBat 8125 multibeam sonar system by Curtin University of Technology (CUT) on the charter vessel Firebird during the period 29th October – 6th November 2003. The survey was undertaken as a collaborative project between CUT and the University of Western Australia (UWA) under the Coastal Water Habitat Mapping (CWHM) Project within Coastal Cooperative Research Centre Program. The purpose of the project was to build baseline information for benthic habitats within the study area. This V1 dataset contains a 2m resolution 32-bit floating point geotiff file of the Recherche Archipelago bathymetry, derived from the processed Reson SeaBat 8125 bathymetry data, using CARIS HIPS and SIPS software. This dataset is not to be used for navigational purposes. This dataset is published with the permission of the CEO, Geoscience Australia.

  • ​​The Port Fairy to Portland bathymetry survey was acquired by Deakin University Marine Mapping lab onboard the M/V Yolla over 6 days in 2020 using a Kongsberg EM2040C. This survey was part of the Victorian Coastal Monitoring Program, which requires bathymetry data to understand offshore sediment dynamics within Victorian coastal waters. This dataset contains a 2m-resolution 32-bit floating point GeoTIFF file of the bathymetry in the study area, derived from the bathymetry data processed using CARIS HIPS and SIPS software. This dataset is not to be used for navigational purposes.

  • This dataset contains the Level 1 Marine Bioregionalisation as defined by the National Bioregionalisation Working Group. Province boundaries have been defined from the Australian Exclusive Economic Zone to the edge of the shelf as defined in the Geomorphic Units dataset. The boundaries in this dataset define areas of core province and transitional areas of the benthic bioregions of Australia.

  • This resource contains a profile curvature grid for the greater Darwin Harbour region as part of a baseline seabed mapping program of Darwin Harbour and Bynoe Harbour. This project was funded through offset funds provided by an INPEX-led Ichthys LNG Project to the Northern Territory Government’s Department of Environment and Natural Resources (NTG-DENR) with co-investment from Geoscience Australia (GA) and the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS). The intent of this program is to improve knowledge of the marine environments in the Darwin and Bynoe Harbour regions by collating and collecting baseline data that enable the creation of thematic habitat maps and information to underpin marine resource management decisions. The profile curvature grid was derived from a compilation of multiple surveys undertaken by GA, AIMS and NTG-DENR between 2011 and 2017, including GA0333 (Siwabessy et al., 2015), GA0341 (Siwabessy et al., 2015), GA0351/SOL6187 (Siwabessy et al., 2016), GA4452/SOL6432 (Siwabessy et al., 2017), GA0356 (Radke et al., 2017), and GA0358 and GA0359 (Radke et al., 2018), adding to those from previous surveys GA4425 and GA0333 collected by GA, AIMS, NTG-DENR and Darwin Port Authority. It measures the curvature of the surface in the direction of the slope.
