  • During 2000 the Australian Geological Survey Organisation (now Geoscience Australia) operated geomagnetic observatories at Alice Springs and Kakadu in the Northern Territory, Canberra in the Australian Capital Territory, Charters Towers in Queensland, Gnangara and Learmonth in Western Australia, Macquarie Island, Tasmania, in the sub-Antarctic, and Mawson in the Australian Antarctic Territory. Magnetic recording also took place at the stations of Casey and Davis in the Australian Antarctic Territory. This report describes instrumentation and activities, and presents monthly and annual mean magnetic values, plots of hourly mean magnetic values and K indices at the magnetic observatories and repeat stations operated by Geoscience Australia during calendar year 2000.

  • During 2004 Geoscience Australia operated geomagnetic observatories at Kakadu and Alice Springs in the Northern Territory; Charters Towers in Queensland; Learmonth and Gnangara in Western Australia; Canberra in the Australian Capital Territory; Macquarie Island, Tasmania, in the sub-Antarctic; and Casey and Mawson in the Australian Antarctic Territory. A number of geomagnetic repeat stations were also occupied in 2004. The Australian Geomagnetism Report 2004 describes instrumentation and activities; absolute reference magnetometers; data distribution; and presents monthly and annual mean magnetic values, plots of hourly mean magnetic values and K indices at the magnetic observatories and repeat stations operated by Geoscience Australia during calendar year 2004.

Three geomagnetic repeat stations were also occupied in 2005. The Australian Geomagnetism Report 2005 (Volume 53) describes instrumentation and activities; absolute reference magnetometers; data distribution; and presents monthly and annual mean magnetic values, plots of hourly mean magnetic values and K indices at the magnetic observatories and repeat stations operated by Geoscience Australia during calendar year 2005.

  • IAGA Working Group V-8: Analysis of the global and regional geomagnetic field and its secular variation. "It is a combination of two earlier catalogs, the IAGA catalog of national repeat station network descriptions (Barton, 1991), and the IAGA catalog of national magnetic surveys and carts (Newitt, 1993)".

  • The Australian Geological Survey Organisation (AGSO) flew an airborne geophysical survey of 49 397 line km covering the Julia Creek 1:250 000 map Sheet area in the northwestern Queensland. The survey formed part of the National Geoscience Mapping Accord and was flown along east-west flight lines, 400 metres apart at an altitude of 80 metres above ground level. The survey was flown from 24 April to 6 June 1999. The total magnetic intensity, gamma-ray spectrometric and digital elevation model data collected during the survey, have been processed and are available for purchase. These data are sold as digital point located data, grids and hardcopy maps by the Australian Geological Survey Organisation. Colour and greyscale pixel image maps are also available.
