Geoscience Australia carried out a marine survey on Carnarvon shelf (WA) in 2008 (SOL4769) to map seabed bathymetry and characterise benthic environments through colocated sampling of surface sediments and infauna, observation of benthic habitats using underwater towed video and stills photography, and measurement of ocean tides and wave generated currents. Data and samples were acquired using the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) Research Vessel Solander. Bathymetric mapping, sampling and video transects were completed in three survey areas that extended seaward from Ningaloo Reef to the shelf edge, including: Mandu Creek (80 sq km); Point Cloates (281 sq km), and; Gnaraloo (321 sq km). Additional bathymetric mapping (but no sampling or video) was completed between Mandu creek and Point Cloates, covering 277 sq km and north of Mandu Creek, covering 79 sq km. Two oceanographic moorings were deployed in the Point Cloates survey area. The survey also mapped and sampled an area to the northeast of the Muiron Islands covering 52 sq km. Topographic Slope grid represents the slope angle (in degree) of an area of seabed. It was created from the bathymetry grid obtained from the survey onboard the Mattew Flinders in 2011. Please see the metadata of the bathymetry grid for details (GeoCat no: 74915).

This dataset contains multibeam sonar bathymetry data from seabed mapping surveys on the Van Diemen Rise in the eastern Joseph Bonaparte Gulf of the Timor Sea. The survey was conducted under a Memorandum of Understanding between Geoscience Australia (GA) and the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) in two consecutive years 2009 (GA survey number GA-0322 and AIMS survey number SOL4934) and 2010 (GA survey number GA-0325 and AIMS survey number SOL5117). The surveys obtained detailed geological (sedimentological, geochemical, geophysical) and biological data (macro-benthic and infaunal diversity, community structure) for the banks, channels and plains to investigate relationships between the physical environment and associated biota for biodiversity prediction. The surveys also provide Arafura-Timor Sea, and wider northern Australian marine region context for the benthic biodiversity of the Van Diemen Rise. Four study areas were investigated across the outer to inner shelf. This is a compilation of all the bathymetry data that GA holds in its database for the area that covers the Diamantina Fracture Zone to the Naturaliste Plateau. The compilation and processing of GA's single and multibeam bathymetry data in the Gippsland Basin was produced following a request by an internal client in November 2013. It is an updated version of the 2012 bathymetry grid of the Gippsland basin.

Geoscience Australia carried out a marine survey on Lord Howe Island shelf (NSW) in 2008 (SS062008) to map seabed bathymetry and characterise benthic environments through colocated sampling of surface sediments and infauna, rock coring, observation of benthic habitats using underwater towed video, and measurement of ocean tides and wavegenerated currents. Subbottom profile data was also collected to map sediment thickness and shelf stratigraphy. Data and samples were acquired using the National Facility Research Vessel Southern Surveyor. Bathymetric data from this survey was merged with other preexisting bathymetric data (including LADS) to generate a grid covering 1034 sq km. As part of a separate Geoscience Australia survey in 2007 (TAN0713), an oceanographic mooring was deployed on the northern edge of Lord Howe Island shelf. The mooring was recovered during the 2008 survey following a 6 month deployment. lh_4m is an ArcInfo grid of the Lord Howe survey area produced from the processed EM300 bathymetry data of the survey area using the CARIS HIPS and SIPS software.

The topographic Aspect grid represents the angle of aspect of the seabed in the Darwin Harbour survey area. The Aspect grid was created from the bathymetry grid of Darwin Harbour obtained from the survey onboard the Matthew Flinders. This is a compilation of all the processed multibeam bathymetric data that Geoscience Australia holds in its database for the Bremer Sub-Basin. The location of the sub-basin lies in deep water off the southwest margin of WA between Albany and Esperance at the western end of the Great Australian Bight.

Geoscience Australia carried out marine surveys in Jervis Bay (NSW) in 2007, 2008 and 2009 (GA303, GA305, GA309, GA312) to map seabed bathymetry and characterise benthic environments through colocated sampling of surface sediments (for textural and biogeochemical analysis) and infauna, observation of benthic habitats using underwater towed video and stills photography, and measurement of ocean tides and wavegenerated currents. Data and samples were acquired using the Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO) Research Vessel Kimbla. Bathymetric mapping, sampling and tide/wave measurement were concentrated in a 3x5 km survey grid (named Darling Road Grid, DRG) within the southern part of the Jervis Bay, incorporating the bay entrance. Additional sampling and stills photography plus bathymetric mapping along transits was undertaken at representative habitat types outside the DRG. This 50 sample data set comprises %TOC, %TN, TOC/TN ratios, and carbon and nitrogen isotopic ratios for surface (0.0 to 2.0 cm) sediments from Jervis Bay.

Geoscience Australia conducted a hydrographic and seafloor characterisation survey nearshore from Davis Station in the Australian Antarctic Territory. The multibeam bathymetry data was acquired during January-February 2017 from the AAD workboat Howard Burton in the Vestfold Hills region. This survey is a component of the Australian Antarctic Program (AAP) and Project 5093 Hydrographic Surveying and Seafloor Characterisation Program (Chief Investigator: Ursula Harris, AAD). The objective of the survey was to map the seabed environment in shallow (<300 m) coastal waters for the compilation of nautical charts and acquire baseline data for environmental management, science, infrastructure and logistical operations. Data collected during the survey includes high-resolution multibeam bathymetry, backscatter, sediment samples, seafloor imagery and sub-bottom profiles. This dataset is a 32bit geotiff at 11 m resolution using EGM2008 vertical datum and EPSG:4326 coordinate system and produced from the processed EM3002D/ EM2040C Dual system bathymetry data. This dataset is published with the permission of the CEO, Geoscience Australia. Not to be used for navigational purposes.
