  • This preliminary report will provide a geochemical and ionic characterisation of groundwater, to determine baseline conditions and, if possible, to distinguish between different aquifers in the Laura basin. The groundwater quality data will be compared against the water quality guidelines for aquatic ecosystem protection, drinking water use, primary industries, use by industry, recreation and aesthetics, and cultural and spiritual values to assess the environmental values of groundwater and the treatment that may be required prior to reuse or discharge.

  • This record presents a compilation of new zircon U-Pb SHRIMP geochronological results (total of 17 samples) from the east Arunta region, the Litchfield Province and the Nimbawah Domain of the Pine Creek Orogen, and the Murphy Inlier, Northern Territory/Queensland. These data was collected through the ongoing collaborative NTGS-GA geochronology project during the period July 2007-June 2009 under the National Geoscience Agreement (NGA). Six samples were analysed from the east Arunta region (HALE RIVER, ILLOGWA). Five of these samples were from Palaeoproterozoic metasediments and intrusives, one sample (1945963) was from the overlying Neoproterozoic Amadeus Basin (Table 1). Ten samples in total were collected from the Pine Creek Orogen; one from the Litchfield Province (CAPE SCOTT), the remainder from the Nimbuwah Domain (COBOURG PENINSULA, ALLIGATOR RIVER). One sample (from the base of the Westmoreland Conglomerate) was analysed from the Murphy Inlier region (WESTMORELAND; Qld). Three additional samples were submitted for SHRIMP analysis but which did not yield zircons or the zircons extracted were unsuitable for analysis.

  • This report presents new SHRIMP U-Pb zircon results for twelve rocks from central, southeastern Queensland (Figure i and Table i). The work was carried out under the auspices of the National Geoscience Agreement (NGA) between Geoscience Australia and the Geological Survey of Queensland.

  • The AGSO Cities Project was established in 1996 to undertake research directed towards the mitigation of the risks faced by Australian urban communities that are posed by a range of geohazards. Geohazards are broadly defined to include all earth surface processes with the potential to cause loss or harm to the community or the environment. The ultimate objective is to improve the safety of communities, and consequently make them more sustainable and prosperous. To provide a realistic focus to this research, and to achieve practical outcomes, the Cities Project is using a series of case studies based on Queensland centres to develop and test its science and techniques. Cairns is the first of these multi-hazard case studies. Cairns is the most northerly of Queensland's cities and one of the fastest growing communities in Australia. It is also an isolated community, located some 1 400 km from Brisbane (Figure (i)). Cairns has a resident population of approximately 120 000 and this total can exceed 150 000 at the height of the tourist season.

  • Applications dated 18 August 2010 for verification of a reference standard of measurement under Regulation 12 of the National Measurement Regulations 1999 was received from the Land and Property Management Authority, NSW for verification of GDA94 position on their CORSnet monuments. This report documents the processing and analysis of GPS data observed by the CORSnet-NSW GPS stations during a 7-day period from 08 August to 14 August 2010 (day of year 220 to 226) for 4 stations (CSNO, IHOE, PBOT, and TBOB) to satisfy the position verification requirements.
