  • The Australian Fiducial Network (AFN) consists of eight permanent, continuously operating, Geodetic GPS receivers on the Australian mainland and Tasmania. The network was initially observed during the International GPS Service for Geodynamics (IGS) Epoch '92 campaign, July-August, 1992. The AFN, in conjunction with additional sites beyond the Australian mainland, forms the Australian Regional GPS Network (ARGN).

  • Following a Government decision in 1984, Geoscience Australia actively engages in nuclear monitoring activities on behalf of the Australian Government through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade's Australian Safeguards and Non-proliferation Office. Geoscience Australia helps Australia fulfil its obligations under the CTBT by monitoring for nuclear explosions worldwide and by contributing to the development of the CTBT verification regime. Geoscience Australia is currently responsible for the operation and maintenance of 10 of Australia's seismo-acoustic IMS facilities (six seismic stations, three infrasound stations and one hydroacoustic station). Additionally, Geoscience Australia is in the process of building the final infrasound station to complete Australia's seismo-acoustic IMS network. Construction of this station is expected to be completed within the next two years. Geoscience Australia actively participates in international fora dedicated to technological advances supporting nuclear non-proliferation and verification, and to the use of IMS data for civil and scientific applications. The latter include tsunami-warning and the monitoring of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.

  • Digital elevation data which describes Australia's landforms and seabed is crucial for addressing issues relating to the impacts of climate change, disaster management, water security, environmental management, urban planning and infrastructure design. The National Elevation Data Framework (NEDF) vision is to ensure that decision makers, investors and the community have access to the best available elevation data to address the needs of today and the decades ahead.

  • Interactive Maps is a discovery and exploration view of Geoscience Australia's geospatial services. The following scientific and decision support themes have curated content comprised of maps and functions. Each map has queries and functions with linked access to OGC (Open Geospatial Consortium) web services and metadata. This system replaces MapConnect and AMSIS applications.

  • AUSPOS provides users with the facility to submit dual frequency geodetic quality GPS RINEX data observed in a 'static' mode, to our GPS processing system and receive rapid turn-around Geocentric Datum of Australia (GDA) and International Terrestrial Reference Frame (ITRF) coordinates.

  • AUSGeoid98 is the current model in a series of national geoid models for Australia produced by Geoscience Australia. It replaced AUSGeoid93 and uses the latest available data and techniques.

  • Currently a number of different landslide inventories exist in various databases within Australia, and each uniquely addresses a specific purpose. These databases range in scale and detail, and although some similarities and a number of common themes are apparent between databases, the method in which information is organised and described varies considerably.
