The Vlaming Sub-Basin CO2 Storage Potential Study web service includes the datasets associated with the study in the Vlaming Sub-basin, located within the southern Perth Basin about 30 km west of Perth. The data in this web service supports the results of the Geoscience Australia Record 2015/009 and appendices. The study provides an evaluation of the CO2 geological storage potential of the Vlaming Sub-basin and was part of the Australian Government's National Low Emission Coal Initiative.

The data contained in this service is not authoritative and has not been updated since 2006. This web service contains the legacy data found in the Australian Marine Spatial Information System (AMSIS) between 2006 and 2015, with a currency date of 2006. To honour the original licensing arrangements with the data holders, only the WMS is available. Users will need to contact the agency responsible for the data to check current validity and spatial precision.

This service contains features as defined under the Offshore Petroleum and Greeenhouse Gas Storage Act 2006. The Petroleum blocks defined under the Act, are delivered separately in the 'Australia - OPGGSA 2006 - Petroleum Blocks' service.

Offshore Minerals Act (OMA 1994) - Mineral Blocks. This service displays the most recent realisation of the Mineral Blocks as defined under the Offshore Minerals Act 1994 (OMA 1994) as realised in GDA94. Block data extends beyond the area of operation of the OMA and includes areas of coastal waters and land within the constitutional limits of the States and Territories.

The Roebuck Basin on Australia’s offshore north-western margin is the focus of a regional hydrocarbon prospectivity assessment being undertaken by the Offshore Energy Systems Section. This offshore program is designed to produce pre-competitive information to assist with the evaluation of the hydrocarbon resource potential of the central North West Shelf and attract exploration investment to Australia. The recent oil and gas discoveries at Phoenix South 1 (2014), Roc 1 (2015-16), Roc 2 (2016), Phoenix South 2 (2016), Phoenix South 3 (2018), Dorado 1 (2018) and Dorado 2–3 (2019) in the Bedout Sub-basin demonstrate the presence of a petroleum system in Lower Triassic strata (Grosjean et al., 2021; Rollet et al., 2019). As part of this program, a range of organic geochemical analyses were acquired on petroleum fluids from the Dorado 1 and Roc 2 wells with these data released in this report.

Geoscience Australia houses one of the world's largest collections of petroleum data. Much of this data is non-confidential and available to the petroleum industry, research organisations and the public. The collection includes seismic survey data submitted by industry under legislative requirements as well as data collected by research projects and marine surveys undertaken by Geoscience Australia or other government agencies or institutions. The collection comprises digital 2D and 3D seismic survey field data, navigation data, processed data, velocity data, observer's logs, operational reports, processing reports, bathymetry data, potential field data (gravity and magnetic) and also hard-copy data submitted during the pre-digital era including seismic sections and other analogue formats Value: Data used for interpreting the geologic structure of the subsurface. This work can be used for the assessment of resource potential. This data can be discovered through the National Offshore Petroleum Information Management System (NOPIMS) - https://www.ga.gov.au/nopims

The Australian Government, through the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science, routinely funds Geoscience Australia to acquire pre-competitive data to support prospectivity assessments of various offshore basins. As part of the Australian Government's National CO2 Infrastructure Plan (Carbon Storage Taskforce 2009), a marine seismic reflection survey, Gippsland Basin Infill 2D Marine Seismic Survey - GA0352, was undertaken in the offshore southern margin of the Gippsland Basin to investigate potential sites suitable for CO2 geological storage (Langford, 2016).
