The Australian Onshore and Offshore Boreholes OGC service at https://services.ga.gov.au/gis/boreholes/ows should now be used for accessing Geoscience Australia borehole data. This is an Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) web service providing access to Australian onshore and offshore borehole data. This web service is intended to complement the borehole GeoSciML-Portrayal v4.0 web service, providing access to the data in a simple, non-standardised structure. The borehole data includes Mineral Drillholes, Petroleum Wells and Water Bores along with a variety of others types. The dataset has been restricted to onshore and offshore Australian boreholes, and bores that have the potential to support geological investigations and assessment of a variety of resources.

  • <p>The Roebuck Basin and adjoining Beagle Sub-basin are underexplored areas on Australia’s North West Shelf and are undergoing renewed exploration interest since the discovery of oil at Phoenix South 1 and gas at Roc 1, 2 in the Bedout Sub-basin. A well folio of 24 offshore wells across the Beagle, Bedout, Rowley and Barcoo sub-basins was completed as part of Geoscience Australia’s assessment of hydrocarbon prospectivity across the region. The study consists of composite well log plots summarising lithology, stratigraphy, GA’s newly acquired biostratigraphic and geochemical data and petrophysical analysis, in conjunction with revised sequence interpretations. <p>The wells included in the well folio package are: <p>Anhalt 1, Barcoo 1 ST2, Bedout 1, Bruce 1, Cossigny 1, De Grey 1A ST1, Delambre 1, Depuch 1, East Mermaid 1B ST1, Hanover South 1, Huntsman 1, Keraudren 1. Lagrange 1, Minilya 1, Nebo 1, Omar 1, Phoenix 1, Phoenix 2, Phoenix South 1 ST1 ST2, Picard 1, Poissonnier 1, Roc 1, Steel Dragon 1 and Wigmore 1

For general inquiries, please email client services.</b> This application provides access to GA's Oracle petroleum wells databases. Data themes include header data, biostratigraphy, organic geochemistry, reservoir and facies, stratigraphy, velocity and directional surveys. Data is included for offshore and onshore regions. Scientific data entry is generally only conducted for offshore wells. Onshore data is generally acquired from state geological surveys.

  • <div>As a resource to enhance exploration in the offshore Otway Basin, Geoscience Australia (GA) has produced a new well folio that extends the scope of a previous release by including 32 key wells from the central and southeast regions. This folio covers the areas from Normanby 1 on the Normanby Terrace, through the Shipwreck Trough and Nelson Sub-basin, to Whelk 1 in the south. The previous well composites included wireline logs for petrophysical analysis, interpreted lithology, organic geochemistry and organic petrology data, and well markers. This folio includes all of these attributes with the addition of core-based depositional environment (DE) and gross depositional environment (GDE) interval interpretations which were subsequently used to constrain wireline interpretation away from core control. The core/wireline lithological interpretation along with further seismic and biostratigraphic data informed well marker locations and enabled a better regional correlation across the basin. The folio provides the complementary datasets used to construct each well composite.
