Abstract

This metadata encompasses the "velocity_depth_models" directory of the CD-ROM which contains the file velocity_models.shp. This dataset contains the location of velocity-depth models in the south eastern Australia region (see GEOGRAPHIC BOUNDING BOX) taken from Geoscience Australia's prototype database called 'SeisVel'.

This data was initially sourced from well logs, sonobuoys, ocean-bottom seismometers, onshore seismic recorders and provelocities (also known as 'stacking velocities'). Interpretations of this data were sourced from published research papers. All data was then loaded into a prototype database called 'SeisVel' by Geoscience Australia staff. Point data was exported from the 'SeisVel' database and then imported into ARCVIEW as a shape file.
