FK150301 Henderson Perth Canyon to Henderson Bathymetry 2015 (4441/20150012S)
The FK150301 bathymetry Survey/Acquisition was acquired by University of Western Australia onboard the Research Vessel Falkor during the period 1st of March 2015 to 12th March 2015 using the Sensor/Instrument Kongsberg EM302 (30 kHz), EM710 (30 kHz)
A primary goal for the mission was to run ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) surveys at various depths to assess what animals might be found, their abundance, and the best sites for more focused research. The researchers expected to find a range of species including corals, sponges, sea fans, sea pens, urchins, sea stars, and large fish including sharks. While researchers had ideas of what they would see, having never actually explored the canyon there was no telling what they might find. Species new to science are always a possibility, especially during deeper dives.

The FK150301 Survey, 20150012S was acquired by University of Western Australia onboard the RV Falkor/Kongsberg EM302 and EM710 from the 1st of March 2015 to 12th March 2015. The Professor onboard was Malcolm McCulloch.
This product follows the recommended processing methodology as prescribed by the AusSeabed Multibeam Guidelines.
Please note that certain products are subject to routine update (e.g. resolution, coverage, temporal variation, guidelines/best practice).
The client is advised to refer to the latest version of all documents and products for the most up-to-date material.Â
The Metadata/Catalogue record expresses the version in the record title whilst products incorporate date of production as per AusSeabed’s file naming convention.
Processing methodology:
This dataset was produced using CARIS HIPS & SIPS and the AusSeabed-recommended processing methodology as follows.
1. A new Caris project was created in conjunction with existing or newly created vessel configuration file(s).
2. The raw swath sonar data files were imported to the project. GGK is the preferred navigation and ellipsoid height source.
3. The POSMV data files were imported to the project to bring in delayed heave, delayed heave RMS.
4. Post-processed POS MV data in POSPAC 8.3.
5. Applied SBETS to data in CARIS (PPK Solution).
6. TPU and GPS tide were computed and all data were georeferenced (merged) to Ellipsoid datum.
7. A CUBE was generated as a reference surface for data cleaning.
8. An automated data cleaning using the surface cleaning method with the reference surface was undertaken.
9. Further manual cleaning was conducted as required after visual assessment.
10. The final grid was produced at an optimum resolution of 2m.
11. At Geoscience Australia, the received GeoTIFF was shifted to EGM2008 using AusCoastVDT and CARIS HIPS and SIPS.
12. The final processed grids were exported as a 32-bit floating point GeoTIFF at 2m resolution, referenced to EGM2008.Â
This dataset is not to be used for any navigation purposes.
