Abstract
Between 1910 and 1935 several attempts were made to establish a Commonwealth Geological Survey. These attempts were made at the request of organisations such as the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (now Council for Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation) and the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. Conferences between representatives of the Commonwealth and States were held in 1925, 1935 and 1936.
