Abstract

Geoscience Australia's National Gravity Database contains onshore and offshore data from more than 1,200,000 point gravity observations. These data have been accumulated from gravity surveys carried out over more than sixty years. This repository of gravity information is a valuable national asset with importance to the mineral and petroleum exploration industries, geodesy and the international scientific community. This March 2004 release contains some 192,000 more stations than the 2003 release.

The release of the 2004 edition of the Australian National Gravity Database contains some 1,200,000 point data values in the area extending from 8&deg; S to 48&deg; S and 108&deg; E to 162&deg; E. All data are provided in GDA94 coordinates. Both onshore and offshore data are in the 2004 database release which has approximately 192,000 additional gravity stations to the 2003 release. <p>The parameters of the point located data are: <br>Station spacing: various spacings ranging from 10 m to 11 km <br>Projection: Geodetic in latitude and longitude <br>Null value: **** <p>Gravity Datum <br>The gravity data as supplied are based on the IGSN71 datum and ISOGAL84 scale. The gravity unit used is micrometres per second squared. The height data are given in metres based on the Australian Height Datum (AHD). Gravity positions are given in datum GDA94.
