Abstract
Interpolated surface representing the spatial distribution of permeability within the following formations in the Great Artesian Basin: 1. Birkhead Formation 2. Cadna-owie and Bungil formations 3. Evergreen Formation 4. Hooray Sandstone and equivalents 5. Hutton Sandstone 6. Precipice Sandstone Data is available as a raster in ESRI Grid and ESRI ASCII grid formats. This GIS data set was produced for the Great Artesian Basin Water Resource Assessment. Rasters were used in: Figure 5.26 of Ransley TR and Smerdon BD (eds) (2012) Hydrostratigraphy, hydrogeology and system conceptualisation of the Great Artesian Basin. A technical report to the Australian Government from the CSIRO Great Artesian Basin Water Resource Assessment. CSIRO Water for a Healthy Country Flagship, Australia. Figure 5.11 of Smerdon BD and Ransley TR (eds) (2012) Water resource assessment for the Central Eromanga region. A report to the Australian Government from the CSIRO Great Artesian Basin Water Resource Assessment. CSIRO Water for a Healthy Country Flagship, Australia. Figure 5.13 of Smerdon BD and Ransley TR (eds) (2012) Water resource assessment for the Surat region. A report to the Australian Government from the CSIRO Great Artesian Basin Water Resource Assessment. CSIRO Water for a Healthy Country Flagship, Australia. SOURCE DATA: Great Artesian Basin porosity and permeability (dataset). Geoscience Australia, 2013. Cat# 76562 METHODS: Interpolation of mean horizontal permeability from well core samples using ArcGIS TopoToRaster BOUNDARIES: Birkhead Formation raster was cropped using the digital dataset "Birk - Aquitard - Layer 7" reported in Welsh (2000). Cadna-Owie and Bungil formations raster was cropped using: 1. The digital dataset "CADN - aquifier - layer 4" reported in Welsh, (2000). 2. Boundary of the Great Artesian Basin Water Resource Assessment Central Eromanga and Surat reporting regions Ransley TR and Smerdon BD (eds) (2012) Precipice and Evergreen formation rasters were clipped using the precipice boundary modified from the digital data set reported in 'Hydrogeological Framework Report for the Great Artesian Basin Water Resource Plan Area Version 1.0' (2005). Report prepared by the Queensland Department of Natural Resources and Mines. Qld. Hooray Formation raster was cropped using the digital dataset "CADN - aquifier - layer 4" reported in Welsh (2000). Hutton Formation raster was cropped using the digital dataset "HUTT - aquifier - layer 8" reported in Welsh (2000). REFERENCES: Welsh, W. D. (2000).
