Abstract
These datasets cover approximately 260 sq km along the eastern seaboard of the Cook Shire Council and over all of Lizard, Palfrey and South Islands and are part of the 2009 North Queensland LiDAR capture project. This project, undertaken by Photomapping Services on behalf of the Queensland Government captured highly accurate elevation data using LiDAR technology. Available dataset formats (in 1 kilometre tiles) are: - Classified las (LiDAR Data Exchange Format where strikes are classified as ground, vegetation or building) - 1 metre Digital Elevation Model (DEM) in ASCII xyz - 0.25 metre contours in ESRI Shape

Lineage
Airborne Laser Scanning (ALS) data was acquired around Cairns, Daintree and Cooktown for the North Queensland project from a fixed wing aircraft between 02 August 2009 and 09 September 2009. Acquisition over tidal areas was undertaken within +/- 2 hours of low tide. DATA PROCESSING Ground Point Classification: An automatic ground algorithm separates ground points from other points. For the cane field areas the ground algorithm was adjusted to eliminate false ground points which appeared in the top of the cane. Separate algorithms were used for areas within and outside cane field areas. Further manual editing was required to complete the ground classification in cane field, rainforest and mangrove areas. Ground categories: Ground points and Model key points Non Ground categories: Vegetation being 80-90% correct. Low vegetation 0.10m - 0.35m, medium vegetation 0.35m - 1.50m, high vegetation greater than 1.5m. Vegetation may contain remnant buildings points, cars, fences, power poles and other objects Buildings: Buildings being 80-90% correct. May contain wrongly classified points (mostly should be high veg.) Water: Ocean and rivers wider than 20m Overlap: Includes ground and non-ground points in the overlap between runs Contours: Contours are derived from the ground model key points using TerraModel software. Contour polygons less than 10 point/m² have been removed in flat areas.
