Abstract
This Digital Elevation Model Image is a subset from the GLOBE Project (1km) . The data is stored at /d/geo/store/data/national_data/dem/1kilometre and dataset(s) in this directory include: dem1k (LAMBERT projected image), dem1kdd (GEODETIC projected image), dem1kg (LAMBERT projected image - greyscale) and dem1kddg (GEODETIC projected image - greyscale. Note that Jpeg representations are also stored with each image for a quick view. Images can be viewed using ERMapper, ERViewer and ARCGIS (with the cew plug-in, available free from www.ermapper.com ). Full GLOBE metadata is stored in GEOMET. Lineage
These images are processed representations of the freely distributed one kilometre digital elevation model (DEM) by the EROS Data Centre Active Archive Centre. The following information briefly describes the original dataset, a tile of which was used to produce this one. "The GLOBE (Global Land One-km Base Elevation) Project has developed a 1-km gridded, quality-controlled global Digital Elevation Model (DEM). GLOBE is an internationally designed, developed, and independently peer-reviewed global digital elevation model (DEM), at a latitude-longitude grid spacing of 30 arc-seconds (30"). The data are in BIL image format, and includes an associated ARC/INFO header file and colour palette file. The data are broken 16 tiles." This BIL image is derived from the l10g tile of the GLOBE project DEM on the corporate disk at /d/geo/store/data/topo/globe. This tile covers the Australian region from 0 to -50S degrees latitude and 90E to 180E degrees longitude. THIS IMAGE IS DERIVED FROM A DATASET FREELY AVAILABLE OVER THE INTERNET AT http://edcdaac.usgs.gov/gtopo30/gtopo30.html The colour image (dem1k.bil) was generated from the original 1 band 16 bit dataset stored corporately (/d/geo/store/data/topo/globe). In ERMAPPER the image was processed using the rain_GOMP palette ("natural palette") with a "transparency" algorithm. Sun angle is from the northwest using a 3x3 gradient kernel. Reprojection to lambert conformal conic from original lat/long was also done using ERMAPPER (see projection details below). Pixel size is 1000m
