Abstract

This dataset contains the 2010 Offshore Petroleum Acreage Release Areas. The regular release of offshore acreage is a key part of the Australian Government's strategy to encourage investment in petroleum exploration. The 2010 release consits of 31 areas in 5 sedimentary basins.

Lineage

The extents of the 2010 Offshore Petroleum Acreage Release Areas were decided upon by the combined Geoscience Australia and Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism Acreage Release Team. These areas were then captured in GIS format utilising ESRI's ArcGIS 9.3 desktop GIS system. Several visual and technical checks of the data have been carried out to ensure their accuracy.
