Abstract
Collection of mineral and meteorite specimens derived from Geoscience Australia (GA) surveys, donations, purchases and bequests, some of which are held for Australian National Museum. Sample are displayed in GA foyer, National Museum of Australia, Miners Hall of Fame in Kalgoorlie, Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism (RET) and Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association (APPEA) and in several other organisations. Co-located is a teaching set of rocks and minerals used by the education centre, the 'Crown Jewels' large ore/rock specimens, off-cuts from building stone used in the construction of Parliament House, and presentation boxes of rock or mineral specimens given to GA staff in Australia and overseas.

Prior to 1996 the collection was in the Bureau of Mineral Resources, Geology and Geophysics (BMR) museum. BMR morphed into the Australian Geological Survey Organisation. Changing into an agency called Geoscience Australia. Some specimens were bequeathed to the Nation and are managed by Geoscience Australia .Show type collections were bought in the 1960's and 1970's. The current purpose of the mineral and meteorite specimen collection is for public display, teaching and research. Specimens of asbestos samples are bagged. Radioactive samples are in a protective environment in isotope store. Specimens generally have a mineral name/locality/state/province and evaluations from 30 years ago. Key Clients: Industry, Government, Internal Geoscience Australia and Academic Research.
