Abstract
Data compiled from airphoto interpretation and extensive field work. The prime purpose of the data was to produce a hardcopy multi-colour map at a scale of 1:30 000. Mapping of the Northern Vestfold Hills region in Antarctica, by I. Snipe as part of the Australia Antarctic Division's geoscience mapping strategy. Briefly, mapping consists of geological boundaries/units, faults, veins, dykes and dyke swarms, with structural measurements. The data was collected for use in a map publication but has been constructed in such a way as to be useable in a GIS system.

Lineage
Geological theme generated from field observations during many Antarctica expeditions (1982-1994). Topographic themes have been provided by National Mapping Division (formerly AUSLIG). Coastline and, where necessay, other topographic features (eg linear structures) were used for spatial control of the geological data. Compilations were originally captured from aerial photography by Ian Snipe and then recompiled manually by Geoscience Australia to the rectified topographic base supplied by NMD. The data was then captured digitally using scanning and vectorising procedures. The attributes recorded against point, line, and polygon features have been adapted from the GA data dictionary. Extra attributes, or attribute information had to be add or altered to reflect the Antarctica unique requirements.
