SI 1020 Banks Strait, Bass Strait, (HIPP) Bathymetry Acquisition (20210021S)
The Banks Strait bathymetry survey was acquired for the Australian Hydrographic Office (AHO) onboard the M/V Offshore Solution and SMB Indigo during the period 20 January – 17 July 2021. The survey was contracted as part of the HydroScheme Industry Partnership Program (HIPP). The survey area encompasses Banks Strait located between the Northern Tasmanian coast and the Furneaux Group (including Cape Barren, Clarke and Flinders Islands). Bathymetry data was acquired using a Kongsberg EM2040-04 MKII and EM 2040P multibeam sonar and processed using QPS Qimera V2.0.1. The dataset was then exported to GeoTIFF using CARIS HIPS and SIPS software. This dataset contains a 30m-resolution 32-bit floating point GeoTIFF file. This dataset is not to be used for navigational purposes.

While AusSeabed aims to publish data based on the requirements stated in the AusSeabed multibeam guidelines (version 1, https://australian-multibeam-guidelines.github.io), we will also publish interim products (version 0) that are currently available, but have not yet been standardised (version 1). Users should be aware that V1 products will always supersede V0 products. This dataset was produced using CARIS HIPS & SIPS and the AusSeabed-recommended processing methodology as follows.
This surface is a 30 metre Shoal Depth TRue Position (SDTP) derived from International Hydrographic Organisation
Order (IHO) 1A, 1 and 2 metre Combined Uncertainty and Bathymetry Estimator (CUBE) surfaces supplied to the
Australian Hydrographic Office, with depth, position, density and uncertainty preserved from the original
surface. Full resolution surfaces available from AHO on request under restricted licence.
Processing methodology:
This dataset was produced using QPS Qimera V2.0.1 and exported to GeoTIFF using CARIS HIPS & SIPS as follows.
1. Processed using QPS Qimera V2.0.1 in accordance with HIPP SOR 2020v 1.2 using CUBE techniques, 1m and 2m CUBE surfaces generated as the final L3 dataset.
2. Data was provided to Geoscience Australia for publication.
3. The final processed grid was exported as a 32-bit floating point Geotiff at 30 m resolution, referenced to: MSL depth (EPSG:5715), WGS 84 (EPSG:4326).
