Abstract
The digital dataset combines data from the Oracle ozchron, sites, and rocks tables and is presented as shapefiles and mapinfo files for the rubidium-strontium, conventional uranium-lead and samarium-neodymium geochronology themes. This dataset package will eventually include the uranium-lead shrimp data, and is intended to be updated on a regular basis until the project is completed.

Lineage
Data stored in Geoscience Australia's geochronology (OZCHRON), and OZROCKS (SITES and ROCKS) Oracle databases were extracted and converted to GIS layers using in-house ArcInfo scripts. The coverages conform to specifications stated in the Geoscience Australia Data Dictionary for GIS products, version 2002.02 (http://www.ga.gov.au/general/technotes/20011112_53.jsp). A thorough visual check of the data has been done in ArcView by overlaying the geochronology points on attributed geological polygon digital data. Checks were done to see that unitnames from the ROCKS table and the geology theme(s) correspond, and the point falls within or close to the polygon as described. An intra-method check was also done (a sample may have been assessed by more than one geochronology method) or be in the same general vicinity as other samples with the same descriptions from the ROCKS table. ESRI shape files and MapInfo files were then created from the ArcInfo data.
