Abstract

This digital data represents an interpretation of the metamorphic geology of Geoscience Australia's Northern Australian Craton project (NAC) in the Northern Territory and Western Australia. It consists of linework, polygons and attributes for both metamorphosed and non-metamorphosed geological features.

Lineage

The digital geological data for this map has been compiled mainly from 1: 250 000 scale geological mapping from Geoscience Australia's previously completed NTData Project in the Northern Territory with reference to 1: 100 000 scale maps where available. Additional information was gathered from researching the explanatory notes to these sheets, in selected journal papers and in personal communication with NTGS geologists. Linework for the geological polygons was digitised using UNIX-based ArcInfo software, edgematched along sheet joins and generalised to depict features at the plotted scale of the map (1: 850 000). Polygons were attributed using Version 2004.02 of the Geoscience Australia Data Dictionary for Spatial Data for the regional and contact grade metamorphic layer in the dictionary.
