Statement

In 2019, Geoscience Australia made the commitment to respectfully engage and collaborate with Australia’s First Peoples as part of our organisational Strategy 2028. This commitment represents a major step in our reconciliation journey, which began in 2017 with GA's Reflect RAP (2017–2018).

The 2021-2023 Innovate RAP is the Geoscience Australia's second RAP. It focuses on building mutually beneficial relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through our Australia-wide geoscience activities and on acknowledging and recognising their perspectives on the geology and geography of Australia. It was developed in 2020 by representatives across GA's divisions using the suggestions, visions and sentiments collated from Geoscience Australia staff contributions.

The plan was officially launched at a ceremony led by the CEO James Johnson on the 20th of May with local Custodian from the Ngambri and Ngunnawal people, Mr Paul House.
