Thickness of Cenozoic sequence in the Great Artesian Basin
Thickness of Cenozoic sequence overlying the Great Artesian Basin.
Data is available as isopachs in Shapefile format.
This GIS data set was produced for the Great Artesian Basin Water Resource Assessment and used in Figure 3.1 of Ransley TR and Smerdon BD (eds) (2012) Hydrostratigraphy, hydrogeology and system conceptualisation of the Great Artesian Basin. A technical report to the Australian Government from the CSIRO Great Artesian Basin Water Resource Assessment. CSIRO Water for a Healthy Country Flagship, Australia.
This dataset and associated metadata can be obtained from www.ga.gov.au, using catalogue number 76534.

SOURCE DATA:
1. 3 Second SRTM Derived Digital Elevation Model (DEM) version 1.0
2. Great Artesian Basin: Base of Cenozoic surface (Geoscience Australia data set available from www.ga.gov.au, 2013)
METHOD:
1. The base of Cenozoic surface was subtracted from the DEM to calculate thickness.
2. Thickness contours at intervals of 50m were generated using the Contour tool in the 3d analyst toolset in ArcGIS
3. Contours were then smoothed to allow display at appropriate scale.
BOUNDARY:
Surface was clipped to the Great Artesian Basin Water Resource Assessment boundary (includes boundary of Carpentaria Basin offshore)
