Applying science to build resilience to tropical cyclones
The first step in understanding risk is understanding the hazard. This means knowing the likelihood of the hazard event and its intensity. During 2018, Geoscience Australia updated the Tropical Cyclone Hazard Assessment (TCHA) to better calculate the likelihood of tropical cyclones in Australia.

Following a visit to areas in Sendai which has been impacted by the 2011 Tohuku tsunami, GA proposed the inclusion of a feature article in the January issue of AJEM given the two tsunami articles (AIDR-GA coauthored article (eCat 126051) and the PTHA (eCat 126066) ). GA is also a member of the Australian Tsunami Advisory Group and the purpose is to share observations that are relevant to Australia.
