Abstract
These colour and greyscale images are digital pictorial representations of the grid of the Magnetic Anomaly Map of Australia (third edition). This grid was compiled from 9 million line-kilometres of TMI data held in the National Airborne Geophysics Database. The data were collected in surveys conducted by AGSO (formerly the Bureau of Mineral Resources, Geology and Geophysics (BMR))and by airborne geophysical companies operating under contracts to AGSO and State and Territory Geological Surveys, either separately or in joint projects. Data from a number of other surveys, carried out for private companies, were acquired by AGSO. These images contain anomalies with wavelengths as small as 3200 m. The original grid data with a cell size of 15 seconds of arc (about 400m) used for the preparation of these images are available from AGSO in digital form for the whole continent, and on an individual 1:1 000 000 sheet area basis. Point located data are available on a survey basis.

Lineage
The grid from which these images are derived is the result of gridding data from separate surveys comprising approx. 9 million line km of data held in the National Airborne Geophysical Database. Most of these data were collected as part of the airborne geophysical reconnaissance of Australia. During the original surveys data processing, the National Geomagnetic Reference Field was removed. In compiling the composite grid, data from individual surveys were "gridded" and then "stitched" together to create a homogenous grid (the Magnetic Anomaly Map of Australia, 3rd edition) with a cellsize of 400m. The grid of the Magnetic Anomaly Map of Australia, 3rd edition was reprojected to lambert conformal conic projection, with a cellsize of 400 metres. The grids were histogram equalised prior to imaging. These data were then low-pass filtered in the frequency domain to remove wavelengths less than 3200m. The colour image uses the natural palette, and has been manipulated so as to appear to be illuminated from the northeast.
