Abstract
This resource includes bathymetry data acquired during the Southern Gulf of Carpentaria bathymetry survey using Simrad EM300 and Reson Seabat 8101 multibeam sonar systems. Southern Gulf of Carpentaria bathymetry survey (GA0276) was led by Dr. Peter Harris (Geoscience Australia) aboard the Marine National Facility's research vessel Southern Surveyor, from the 23rd of March to the 13th of April 2005. The primary objective of the expedition was to map submerged reefs to ascertain their geomorphic nature and document the benthic communities and fauna. This dataset contains four 4m to 7m resolution 32-bit floating point geotiff files of the bathymetry in five study areas and transits, derived from the processed EM300 and Reson 8101 bathymetry data, using CARIS HIPS and SIPS software. A detailed report on the survey is provided in: Harris, P et al. 2006. Submerged coral reefs and benthic habitats of the southern Gulf of Carpentaria: Post-Survey Report - GA Survey 276, RV Southern Surveyor (https://pid.geoscience.gov.au/dataset/ga/65073). This dataset is not to be used for navigational purposes. This dataset is published with the permission of the CEO, Geoscience Australia.

Lineage
While AusSeabed aims to publish data based on the requirements stated in the AusSeabed multibeam guidelines (version 1, https://australian-multibeam-guidelines.github.io), we will also publish interim products (version 0) that are currently available, but have not yet been standardised (version 1). Users should be aware that V1 products will always supersede V0 products. This dataset was produced using CARIS HIPS/SIPS v.11.3.19 and the AusSeabed-recommended processing methodology as follows. 1. A new Caris project was created in conjuction with existing or newly created vessel configuration file(s). 2. Tide with reference to the EGM2008 vertical datum were imported and all data were georeferenced (merged). 3. An auto-resolution Swath Angle was generated as a reference surface for data cleaning. 4. An automated data cleaning was undertaken using a surface cleaning method that utilises the reference surface. 5. Further manual cleaning was conducted as required after visual assessment of the auto-cleaned surface. 6. The final grid was produced at a resolution nearest the banded depth resolution based on the auto-resolution estimate provided in Caris. 7. The final processed grid was exported as four 32-bit floating point Geotiff files at 4-7m resolutions referenced to EGM2008.
