Lineage
The collection includes the Oztemp open-file bottom hole temperature compilation, collected from petroleum and water drilling over a period of several decades. This data set has been extensively QA/QCed specifically for geothermal purposes. Interpretations of this data set were the dominant driver for early geothermal exploration in Australia. Geoscience Australia's heat flow measurement capability (thermal gradient, thermal conductivity) was developed as part of the Australian Government's Onshore Energy Security Program, and is working to infill data gaps in the knowledge of temperature distribution in Australia. Key Clients: Industry, Internal Geoscience Australia (GA) and Academic research.

Source Information
The Oztemp data base is sourced from open file reports held by each State and Territory (Surveys or Mining Department). There is no agreement specific between GA and the data source providers on this: the data is provided to the public and we use it in accordance with each providers conditions. GA is the source of the thermal gradient and thermal conductivity data. -180.0 180.0 -90.0 90.0
