Abstract
These datasets cover approximately 5700 sq km in the eastern sector of the Fraser Coast Regional Council and all of Fraser Island and are part of the 2009 Fraser Coast LiDAR capture project. This project, undertaken by Vekta Pty Ltd on behalf of the Queensland Government captured highly accurate elevation data using LiDAR technology. Available dataset formats (in 1 kilometre tiles) are: - Classified las (LiDAR Data Exchange Format where strikes are classified as ground or non-ground) - 1 metre Digital Elevation Model (DEM) in ASCII xyz - 1 metre Digital Elevation Model (DEM) in ESRI ASCII grid - 0.25 metre contours in ESRI Shape

Lineage
Airborne Laser Scanning (ALS) data was acquired for the Fraser Coast project from a fixed wing aircraft between 17 July 2009 and 29 September 2009 with the related field survey being undertaken between 13 August 2009 and 20 August 2009. The area was divided into 10 regional sections for capture: Burrum Heads, Maryborough, Tiaro, Gympie, Kandanga, Sandy Cape, Waddy Point, Hervey Bay, Eurong and Tin Can Bay. Acquisition over tidal areas was undertaken within +/- 2 hours of low tide. DATA PROCESSING Laser strikes were classified into ground and non-ground points using a single algorithm across the project area. Classified Point Cloud: Ground points were classified as laser strikes hitting the terrain surface. This does not include features above the ground surface or significant bodies of water. Non ground points were defined as laser strikes representing features above the ground surface such as buildings, vegetation, transmission pylons and bridges. An auto- classification of features was undertaken with manual checking and editing done to remove spurious errors. Bare_Earth_DEM_1m: A 1m DEM has been generated from the LiDAR ground surface. Contours: From the ground dataset, at 0.25m contours have been generated by triangulation. Every fifth contour was indexed and a filter was used to remove small, unnecessary isolations. Note: The variety of terrain made auto-classification difficult and extensive manual editing was required. This was particularly true in areas of mature sugar cane and in bodies of water.
