Abstract

A methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) release experiment was held from April – June 2015 at the Ginninderra Controlled Release Facility in Canberra, Australia. The experiment provided an opportunity to compare different emission quantification techniques against a simulated CH4 and CO2 point source release, where the actual release rates were unknown to the participants. This dataset contains quality controlled 5 minute averaged CH4 concentration and meteorlogical data from 21 May to 12 June for 4 Eddy Covariance towers, 1 scanning Boreal laser, 2 scanning FTIR instruments and 2 Picarro towers.
This dataset accompanies the article: Cartwright, L., Zammit-Mangion, A., Bhatia, S., Schroder, I., Phillips, F., Coates, T., Neghandhi, K., Naylor, T., Kennedy, M., Zegelin, S., Wokker, N., Deutscher, N. and Feitz, A. Lineage
The Ginninderra greenhouse gas controlled release facility in Canberra, Australia, was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of different near surface monitoring techniques for detecting and quantifying leaks against a known gas source. Experiments conducted to date include an above ground CO2 and N2O release experiment in 2010 (Humphries et al., 2012) and three sub-surface CO2 release experiments conducted from 2012 – 2013, releasing between 144 to 218 kg of CO2 per day (Feitz et al., 2014; Feitz et al., 2016). In April – June 2015, a blind release experiment with a combined CO2 and CH4 point source was conducted at Ginninderra (Feitz et al., 2018). 1) Feitz, A., Schroder, I., Phillips, F., Coates, T., Neghandhi, K., Day, S., Luhar, A., Bhatia, S., Edwards, G., Hrabar, S., Hernandez, E., Wood, B., Naylor, T., Kennedy, M., Hamilton, M., Hatch, M., Malos, J., Kochanek, M., Reid, P., Wilson, J., Deutscher, N., Zegelin, S., Vincent, R., White, S., Ong, C., George, S., Maas, P., Towner, S., and Griffith, D.
