Marine Samples Collection
The collection consists of seabed samples collected by Geoscience Australia and other organizations since the 1950s. Samples consist of various shallow cores types, rocks derived from dredging, and sea bed sediments collected by grab and dredge methods. A large proportion of samples are refrigerated.

Samples are sourced from a range of organizations. Sampling technique, spatial accuracy, and sample preservation vary significantly between surveys and over time due to improvement in technology Information has been collected by Geoscience Australia, agencies, research organisations and marine science groups. There is no consistent datum and projection as the samples are from a huge time span, many organizations, and the method of measurement has changed as the collection developed. The assumption is that all data is WGS 84 unless stated otherwise. Marine samples collection metadata is meeting Australian Ocean Data Network (AODN) standards. Contributing to interoperable, online network of marine and coastal data resources by standards-based metadata, which will in time serve data to support Australia's science, education, environmental management and policy needs: "Australia's digital ocean commons." Key Clients: Government, Internal Geoscience Australia (GA) and Academic research.
