Abstract
Darwin and surrounds LiDAR 2009 data was flown by Dugro Spatial Solutions Ltd between 4th and 5th of July 2009 as part of the Urban Digital Elevation Modelling in High Priority Areas Project funded by the Federal Department of Climate Change. Distibution of this product is in file format of 1km tiles, and 1m DEM data in ESRI floating point file format. The data has a horizontal accuracy of 0.15m (at one SD) and vertical accuracy of 0.2m (at one SD).

CLASS 2 GROUND Fugro Spatial Solutions Pty Ltd aim is to select those points that are part of a clean ground surface, which might not be 100% of the ground hits. This results in a cleaner dataset, without compromising on terrain detail and accuracy. Ground filtering algorithms, tailored for this project, data type and terrain type, are applied to the full dataset. The ground filtered dataset is then visually checked by an operator, and incorrectly classified data is corrected or the ground filtering algorithm is adjusted and then visually checked. For the verification of the ground classifications, intensity imagery is used as a backdrop image. CLASS 1 UNCLASSIFIED ABOVE GROUND Any lidar return, not classified as ground, but higher than ground (>30cm above ground), is classified as unclassified above-ground return CLASS 7 NOISE Point close to the classified ground surface (low grasses), point below the ground surface (as result of multipath returns from the lidar system) and points high in the air that are not likely to be a valid return (birds, cloud or rain) have been classified to the noise point class ESRI Floating point gridded DEM A 1m DEM has been generated from the lidar ground surface. The method of deriving the height for each grid point is by triangulation between the three nearest lidar ground points. This data has not been field tested for completeness or accuracy.
