Abstract
This resource contains a Northern Territory coastline shapefile for the greater Darwin Harbour region as part of a baseline seabed mapping program of Darwin Harbour and Bynoe Harbour. This project was funded through offset funds provided by an INPEX-led Ichthys LNG Project to the Northern Territory Government’s Department of Environment and Natural Resources (NTG-DENR) with co-investment from Geoscience Australia (GA) and the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS). The intent of this program is to improve knowledge of the marine environments in the Darwin and Bynoe Harbour regions by collating and collecting baseline data that enable the creation of thematic habitat maps and information to underpin marine resource management decisions. The Northern Territory coastline shapefile was derived from a compilation of multiple datasets.

Lineage
A NTcoast_area.shp was created from the Australian Marine Boundaries (ANZCW0703007842) data set. This data is derived from GA’s 1:100,000 scale coastline. The first step was to clip the cz_limit.shp to the NT administrative boundary, the file was named nt_cw_clip.shp, then clipped the cz_limit.shp to the nt_cw_clip.shp to create the NTcoast_area.shp. This shape file includes islands. Using ArcGIS 10.5 geoprocessing tools, mangrove data for Darwin Harbour (ANZLIC Identifier: 2DBCB7711FCE06B6E040CD9B0F274EFE, http://www.ntlis.nt.gov.au/metadata/export_data?type=html&metadata_id=2DBCB7711FCE06B6E040CD9B0F274EFE), which was updated with recent mapping by Northern Territory Government for assessing mangrove health (unpublished), and Bynoe Harbour (ANZLIC Identifier: 2DBCB771203406B6E040CD9B0F274EFE, http://www.ntlis.nt.gov.au/metadata/export_data?type=html&metadata_id=2DBCB771203406B6E040CD9B0F274EFE ) were merged and dissolved into a single layer: MangrovesDHBHTemp.shp. This shape file includes all mangrove habitats and saline flat habitats. The intertidal areas from the Charts Aus00724 and Aus00722 were extracted and converted to a shapefile (IntertidalAreas_wgs84.shp) and then clipped to the study area: IntertidalAreasCharts.shp. The union tool was used to combine the NTcoast_area.shp, MangrovesDHBHTemp.shp and IntertidalAreasCharts.shp into the layer: NT_LIMTemp.shp. All mangrove and seaward polygons, except for islands, were deleted from NT_LIMTemp.shp. The zero meter contour line and existing coastline were used to split mainland polygons that were not split by mangrove polygons. All seaward polygons, except for islands, were deleted and saved as NT_land.shp. The IntertidalAreasChart.shp and MangrovesDHBHTemp.shp were merged using the union tool and subsequently the Mangrove polygons were deleted, resulting in intertidal area without mangrove habitats (Bare_InterTidal.shp). For the final product, the MangrovesDHBHTemp.shp, Bare_Intertidal.shp and the NTLand.shp were merged, resulting in a polygon that could provide a coastline that only includes the mainland and islands, or mainland and Mangroves or mainland, mangroves and bare intertidal flats.
