Lineage
The power station points were digitized in 2011 from the library of imagery held within Geoscience Australia. Imagery used ranged from 0.15m resolution aerial photos to 2.5m resolution satellite images. A complete revision was completed in September 2012. Source Information Primary information sources used to identify and attribute the power stations came from internal Geoscience Australia (GA) data and annually released and publicly available publications. For Tasmania, South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, the contents of this dataset directly reflect the power stations present on the January 2012 Australian Energy Market (AEMO) network diagrams and the 31 July 2012 scheduled, semi-scheduled and non-scheduled power station lists (available from www.aemo.com.au). These diagrams and lists are released annually as part of the National Transmission Development Plan. For Western Australia (WA), all renewable and non-renewable generation facilities reported in the 2010 Energy Generation Tables and the 2010 Energy Resources and Infrastructure Map available on the Western Australian Department of Finance Public Utilities Office webpage (http://www.finance.wa.gov.au/cms/content.aspx?id=13676) were captured. For south west Western Australia (WA), the points also reflect the power station data available from Western Power's Online Network Capacity Mapping Tool. (http://www.westernpower.com.au/ldd/ncmtoverview.html) In the Northern Territory (NT), the major generation facilities that are reported in the annual Northern Territory's Utilities Commission report entitled 2010-11 Power System Review (http://www.nt.gov.au/ntt/utilicom/publications/reports_publications.shtml) were captured. Several smaller facilities (<5 MW) mentioned in the report, that are located in remote communities, were not captured because due to insufficient publicly available information. These primary information sources were supplemented with online, publicly available information from utility companies, power station owners/operators, engineering firms and government agencies.
